Speak Up at the Planning Appeal Listening Session
A public listening session is being held as part of the appeal into the proposed incinerator in our area — and your voice matters.
This is your opportunity to tell the Planning Inspector directly how this development could affect our community, health, environment, and way of life. Whether you're a resident, local business owner, parent, commuter, or nature lover — your views count.

What Happens at the Session?

The Planning Inspector will listen to statements from members of the public.

You can speak for 3–5 minutes about your concerns.

The setting is respectful and non-confrontational — no debates or cross-questioning.

Public Inquiry Details
Inspector P Griffiths BSc (Hons) BArch IHBC of the Planning Inspectorate has been appointed to determine the Appeal referred to above on behalf of the Secretary of State. The procedure being followed is set out in the Town and Country Planning Appeals (Determination by Inspectors) (Inquiry Procedure) (England) Rules 2000, as amended.
Arrangements for the public inquiry which is to be held for determining the appeal.
The inquiry will open at County Hall, Matlock, Derbyshire, DE4 3AG, the main venue for the inquiry, on 23rd April 2025 at 10.00 a.m.
The inquiry is also scheduled to sit on 24 April, 25 April, 29 April, 30 April, 1 May, 2 May, 7 May and 8 May.
There will be a session for third parties to be heard together at Swadlincote Town Hall, 3 Midland Road, Swadlincote DE11 0AG on 24th April from 3.00 p.m. which may continue into the evening.

Any such changes will be displayed on the ‘Planning appeals’ page in the ‘Planning in Derbyshire’ section under the ‘Planning applications’ section in the ‘Environment’ section of the Council’s website, at the following link:
You may be able to give your views about the development at the inquiry; as you are a ‘third party’ this would be at the Inspector’s discretion. Third parties that want to speak can let the Inspector know at the public session in Swadlincote.
There is limited unreserved car parking space in the County Hall car park, which is entered from Bank Road. There is no car park for Swadlincote Town Hall but there are public car parks nearby. The rooms being used for the inquiry at County Hall have induction hearing loops. Anyone wishing to attend with disability requirements is welcome to contact the Council in advance to enable their needs to be accommodated by telephone to 01629 533190 or by email to: Development.Management@derbyshire.gov.uk.
